Madrid – Barajas Airport, established in 1931, is the busiest and most important airport in Spain. About 19 kms from the city, it is also the second largest airport in Europe, and its official name is Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.
Among all the airports in Spain, Madrid airport is also the first to introduce the driverless transit system called Airport People Mover. It connects Terminal 4 with Terminal T4S.
As the airport is located in the El Prat province, Barcelona airport is commonly known as the El Prat airport. Built in 2012, it is the second busiest international airport in Spain and carries more than 40 million passengers on average.
It is about 10 miles from the city centtre. This airport is equipped with three asphalt-concrete runways while serving as the hub for Level, Air Nostrum and Vueling airlines.

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport or simply known as Alicante Airport, is one of the primary airports in Spain. It was established in 1967. It serves as the arrival point for commercial flights from Germany and UK. Alicante serves more than 15 million passengers on average, and it is presently the fifth-largest airport in all of Spain.
This airport is located on the Gran Canaria island of Spain. Gran Canaria Airport was built in 1948. The two runways in this airport cater to flights all around Europe and several parts of the Americas. Gran Canaria Airport sits 25 kilometres south of the Gran Canaria city center of Las Palmas. Presently, Gran Canaria serves as the Hub for Binter Canarias, Canaryfly and Vueling Airlines.
This airport is situated in the southern part of the Tenerife Islands. Locally this airport is known as Aeropuerto de Tenerife Sur, while it also goes by the name Reina Sofia Airport. It was inaugurated in 1979, and since then, it has maintained a record of carrying 140000000 passengers to 111 different destinations in the world.
Valencia airport is located 8 km away from the city of Valencia. Apart from connecting the region to other airports in Spain, this airport offers this city accessibility to more than 20 European countries. This airport was officially opened in March 1933. It is also the airline hub for Iberia Regional and Vueling Airlines.

It also carries passengers to important European cities like London, Munich and Paris. Bilbao is among the busiest airports to carry more than 5 million passengers in a year on average.
Tenerife North Airport, established in 1978, is located in the northern part of Spain and caters to Binter Canarias and Canaryfly Airlines. It has a single operational runway which serves both commercial as well as charter flights to several parts of Spain. Aside from serving as a major connector between Madrid and the Canary Islands, this airport also facilitates cargo transport. The distance between Tenerife Airport and Santa Cruz de Tenerife is 9 km.
Fuerteventura Airport is also known as El Matorral Airport; it is located on the Spanish island Fuerteventura and is a major source of transport to different parts of Spain as well as to Europe. The airport was inaugurated in 1969, and since then, it has undergone numerous renovations to keep this airport updated with the latest aviation standards.
Menorca Airport, established in 1969, is located between the city of Maó and Sant Lluís and accommodates tourist traffic during the summer season. Menorca is a designated UNESCO biosphere reserve for many endangered species of flora and fauna. The distance from the airport to the city centre is 7 kms. The airport has a single operational runway and records more than a million passengers every year.

This airport is also known as Rosalía de Castro Airport, named after the poet Rosalía de Castro. It bears the IATA code SCQ and has one operational runway measured at 3200 metres. This airport started operating in 1937.
Girona-Costa Brava airport is located in the Catalonia region of Spain. It is identified with the GRO IATA code. It has one functional 2400 metres long runway. It caters to airlines like Ryanair, Smartwings, TUI Fly Belgium etc. These airlines conduct both scheduled as well as charter flights from here. In 1967, Girona-Costa Brava Airport was opened to domestic and international civilian passenger and cargo flights.
La Palma is located 8 km out of the city of Santa Cruz de la Palma. This public airport is operated by Aena and hosts airlines like Binter Canarias, CanaryFly and Condor. There is a single operational runway in this airport which is 2200 metres long and carries both charter and passenger flights. This airport was built between 1953 and 1954 and was opened to domestic civil air traffic, international tourist traffic and international technical stopovers in the year 1955.
This airport first opened on 11 June 1968. It is recognised by the international airport council as the Best Airport in Europe for less than 2 million people. There is a single operational runway which is measured at 2200 metres. Recently, major airline Lufthansa started its operations in this airport with connecting flights to Frankfurt and Munich. This airport is located 47 km from the capital of Asturias, Oviedo.
Established in 1972, Granada-Jaén airport is located in the Granada province of Andalusia, Spain. This airport was recently renamed after the famous Spanish poet and dramatist Federico García Lorca Granada Airport. It bears the IATA code GRX, and there is a 2900 metres asphalt runway to accommodate most passenger and charter flights. It hosts more than 1.2 million passengers every year. The Granada-Jaén Airport is only 21 kilometres from the city centre.
