While there are a number of airports in Japan, Tokyo International is the busiest when it comes to passenger footfalls. In the Ota region of Japan, this airport is also known as Haneda Airport. It was established in 1931 at a distance of 60 km from the city.
Established in 1960, 64 km away from the city, Narita International Airport is located in the Greater Tokyo Area to serve the Japanese capital. It distributes the passenger and cargo load with the twin airport Haneda International Airport.

It is a civil aviation airport established in 1991, 45 km away from the city, which shares a taxi area with the Chitose Air Base of the Japanese Military. This is the fifth busiest airport in Japan, with four operational runways.
Established in 1944, 2.4 km away from the city, Fukuoka is the fourth busiest airport among all the airports in Japan. With its single runway, it serves more than 20 airlines worldwide. The airport is very close to Fukuoka city, and it is easily accessible via subway and bus.

Kyushu Saga International Airport, is located 10 km away from the city, in the Kawasoe area of Japan and plays a major role for the Japanese Armed Forces for Defence purposes. This airport is mostly used as a cargo hub for logistical purposes built in 1998.
This is the first airport in the world to be built on the ocean in 1975, 19 km away from the city. Located on Mishima Island, the airport primarily functioned as a joint space for both civilian and military operations. The mainland portion of the airport is no longer used for civil aviation purposes. It is handed over to the Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force.
