It is also important to note that the state of Uttarakhand has been earning record revenues through challans since using the e-challan system. e-challan use has been beneficial in Uttarakhand, mostly for the drivers, who are mostly tour operators.

The e-challan system for the State of Uttarakhand was implemented on 29 February 2020. The National Informatics Centre introduced the e-challan to collect fines and other charges from vehicle makers and users. It has been installed and configured in nearly 1200 hand-held devices bought by the Police Department jointly with SBI. 

The SIM-based integrated devices offer the opportunity to prepare challans directly, generate challan receipts, and accept online payments using debit/credit cards. The system is integrated with the VAHAN 4 portal, which has already been implemented in all the districts of Uttarakhand.

e-challans are electronic tickets issued to traffic offenders against the law and regulations. This is done by placing CCTV cameras and speed sensors on the road; hence, the traffic rules violations are well recorded. The traffic police prepare challan slices on hand-held electronic gadgets.

It also allows people to pay for their challans online without visiting an RTO or police station.

It was launched in India by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to assist traffic police officers in more effectively detecting violators and reducing road incidents and chaos.

It is best to regularly check the Uttarakhand Traffic Police website to see if an e-Challan has been issued for an offender who is unaware of it. 

You can also check for e-challans issued via different methods, such as the Parivahan Government Portal, the Uttarakhand Traffic Police website, and the Digit app.

• Step 1: Visit the official Parivahan Website or download the App from the App Store or Play Store.
• Step 2: Enter your challan number, vehicle number or driving licence number, verify the Captcha, and click on ‘Get Detail’.

• Step 3:  Then, you will be able to see all your challans, including the necessary details.

Another alternative way to check the status of e-Challan is through the Uttarakhand Traffic Police Website. Here are the steps to do so:

• Step 1: Go to the Uttarakhand Police website.
• Step 2: Scroll down a bit and click on the ‘Pay Online e-Challan’ option on the right side.

• Step 3:  This will redirect to the Parivahan Portal.

• Step 4: Enter the required details, such as challan/vehicle number and click on ‘Get Detail’.
• Step 5: Then, you will be able to see all your challans.

To see the status of your pending e-Challans against your vehicle in the Digit app, click here or follow the below steps:

• Step 1: Head to the 'Check Pending Challans' option.
• Step 2: Enter your vehicle’s registration number and hit the ‘Check Details’ button.

Uttarakhand has three payment methods for e-challan online: the Parivahan website, the Uttarakhand Traffic Police portal, and the offline method.

You can pay for your e-challan in Uttarakhand using the official Indian Government portal, Parivahan. Here are the steps to do so:

• Step 1: Visit the Parivahan Website.

• Step 1: Access the Uttarakhand Core Treasury System web portal.
• Step 2: Navigate and select the “e-Challan” option from the list of selections available on the portal.

• Step 5: Find the “e-challan entry” field and go through the payment procedure.
• Step 6: Select your preferred mode of payment and go ahead and make the payment immediately.

After making the payment, you will receive a confirmation receipt as an acknowledgement of the payment made.

Given below are the steps you will have to follow to pay your traffic challan offline:

• If a user prefers to pay offline, this may be done at the nearest traffic police station. 

• Pay the amount due in cash and produce the challan to the concerned police officer. 

• Be sure to have a copy of the challan with you, as they always insist on not accepting the money without this document.
