Overspeeding Fines and Challan in Maharashtra in 2025

Maharashtra is a top industrialised state of India situated in the Western peninsular region of India. Keeping up with rapid industrialisation the number of vehicles have also increased on the roads of Maharashtra  causing several traffic violations - typically overspeeding.

According to a report, most road accidents in Maharashtra have occurred due to overspeeding vehicles in 2019-20. The Government of Maharashtra has set some specific rules and regulations to curb it. Violating these rules might lead to getting an overspeeding challan in Maharashtra.

• For Medium Passenger or Good Motor Vehicles: As per the same section speeding a medium passenger or goods vehicle charges ₹2000 as a penalty.
• For Heavy Goods Motor Vehicles or HGMV: Driving vehicles like trucks and buses at an increased speed can lead to an overspeeding fine of ₹4000.

• Online Mode:

You can also pay the fine online by visiting the e-challan website of Maharashtra Traffic Police.  On the website, enter the vehicle number or challan number and enter the last four-digit number of your engine to check the amount of your pending fine.  Choose your preferred payment option from the list below and pay the requisite amount.

Apart from paying the overspeeding fine in Maharashtra, excessive speeding of a vehicle can lead to suspension of the driving licence for a specified period. Sometimes legal action is taken against them, and this leads to imprisonment in severe cases of overspeeding violation.
