Similar to RC transfer of bike within a state, you must complete the process of transfer when moving from one state to another as well. However, as compared to transfer within a state, the purpose of bike registration transfer from one state to another is to notify the initial RTO where this bike was registered as well as the new RTO of such transfer.
It also results in granting permission to use this bike in a new state. It thus requires obtaining a NOC from the old RTO as well. A transfer of registration certificate from an existing owner to a new one also involves a transfer of bike insurance policy. If the policy has expired, the buyer must purchase a new plan to abide by the motor vehicle safety rules.
Plus, a previous owner must also obtain a No Claim Bonus (NCB) certificate before insurance policy handover as it is non-transferable. A certificate so obtained can be used to avail discount on buying a new vehicle insurance policy.
Documents Required for Inter-state Bike Registration Transfer
Document requirement for inter-state transfer of bike registration certificate is similar to that of transfer within the state. However, it also involves the submission of additional documents listed below.
- NOC from the RTO where the two-wheeler was initially registered
- CMV Form 28
- A report from No Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) to certify the vehicle’s non-involvement in any anti-social or criminal activities
- Receipt of road tax from the new state of RC transfer
A two-wheeler RC transfer process must be completed through document submission and fee payment within 45 days of ownership transfer.
Bike RC Transfer Fee - from One State to Another State
The bike RC transfer fee from one state to another varies depending on its state of transfer. Usually, the charges applicable for such transfer are:
- Transfer fees between Rs. 30 and Rs. 35 for regular motorcycles. For imported bikes, its fees extend up to Rs. 100.
- States where smart cards are applicable, an additional payment of Rs. 200 needs to be made to obtain the same.
Bike RC Transfer Process - from One State to Another
Follow the bike RC transfer process mentioned below to complete such transfer from one state to another.
Step 1 – Bank’s NOC if bike purchased on loan
For a motorcycle purchased on loan, its owner must first obtain a NOC from their lender to transfer it from one state to another.
An owner must, therefore, approach his/her concerned bank and submit all required documents to obtain the NOC.
Step 2 - NOC from the RTO of bike’s initial registration
The next step is to obtain a NOC from the RTO where the bike was initially registered. For instance, when transferring the bike from Delhi to Kolkata as a result of sale or relocation, the owner must apply to the concerned RTO in Delhi for such NOC.
To do so, you must submit the essential documents required for such NOC, like the application form, NOC from the bank, Form 28, NCRB report, bike’s chassis imprint, etc.
Step 3 – Re-registration in the new state’s RTO
Once transferred from the RTO of initial registration, the bike must first have a registration with the new state’s respective RTO. To do so, you must approach the concerned RTO of your locality in the new state with all essential documents.
In case of sale and bike transfer to another state, the transferable documents must be registered in the new owner’s name before such submission.
Once submitted, bike RC transfer will be completed in a few days and certificate will be issued to the owner/buyer. This process is, however, not required in the case of temporary travel to a new state, which can be allowed for up to 12 months.
Bike Registration Transfer Online - from One State to Another
The process of online bike registration transfer when moving from one state to another requires you to do so through the dedicated online portal ‘Parivahan Sewa’. You can do so by applying for NOC and submitting a soft copy of necessary documents to the new state’s RTO through this portal.
However, the online transfer process in the case of inter-state RC transfer will be possible only when both states facilitate the digital process.
This was all about two-wheeler RC transfer within the state as well as from one state to another. Make sure to keep all the documents ready for a hassle-free completion of RC transfer. Also, check the transfer status periodically to speed up the process and obtain new RC at the earliest.
