No Parking Fines and Rules in Delhi in 2024
Situated on the banks of River Yamuna, Delhi is the capital territory and also one of the largest metropolitan cities of India. Due to increased urbanisation, this city faces the key issue of high population density.
As per last year’s news, around 13.4 million vehicles are registered in Delhi. The high population combined with an increasing number of registered vehicles on Delhi roads is gradually leading to a parking concern.
In order to discourage illegal or wrong parking, the Transport Department introduced a no-parking fine in Delhi.
When Are You Charged With a No-Parking Fine in Delhi?
According to the parking rules of Delhi, offenders will be liable to pay a fine in case they park their vehicles in the following ways:
- If anyone parks in an improper way causing obstruction or inconvenience to other vehicles moving on a public road, they will be charged a fine.
- If anyone wrongly parks where parking is prohibited or on public spaces like cycle tracks or footpaths, they are liable to pay a penalty.
- When anyone parks in a non-demarcated zone it attracts a parking fine.
What Are the Parking Rules and Regulations in Delhi?
Due to the lack of adequate parking spaces in Delhi, people tend to park their vehicles in unauthorised spaces on the road. This is further leading to increased traffic congestion. Therefore, the government introduced some rules in Delhi to manage parking issues. Given below is a list of no-parking rules in Delhi implemented by traffic authorities:
- Maintain a distance of 25 metres from any intersecting road while parking any vehicle on-street.
- Do not surface-park any vehicle for more than 1 hour within 500 metres of a multi-level parking space.
- Avoid parking in demarcated zones of residential or commercial areas.
- Do not park any vehicles on footpaths.
- One must not park their vehicle on any residential streets which are separately assigned for the movement of emergency vehicles.
- Do not park near any traffic crossing or traffic light.
- Never park a vehicle on the main street which usually tends to be jam-packed.
- At night, make sure to turn on the parking lights of the vehicle while parking on a dark lane.
- Do not park in a no-parking zone or on a road with any signs which restrict parking.
- Avoid parking at a vacant spot on any private property without the owner's permission.
- Avoid parking in front of a hospital, school, theatre, hotel or any other building in a way that blocks its entrance.
- Do not park a vehicle on a bridge.
- Avoid parking in front of or alongside another parked vehicle.
- Night-time parking of heavy vehicles in residential areas is strictly prohibited.
- One should park their vehicle at a safe distance from any fire stations or electric substations.
What Are the Charges for No-Parking Fine in Delhi?
Here is a list of no-parking charges in Delhi applicable for violating the parking rules as laid down by the Motor Vehicles Act:
- Violators parking their vehicle in an obstructive way on the road are liable to pay a fine of ₹500.
- The wrong parking fine in Delhi is ₹500 on the first violation and ₹1000 on the subsequent violation.
- Towing charges include ₹100 for two-wheelers, ₹200 for four-wheelers, ₹400 for buses, ₹300 for empty LMV/truck and ₹400 for loaded LMV/truck.
- A towing charge ranging from ₹200 to ₹2000 will be applicable on violation of no-parking in authorised parking spaces.
What Are the Payment Options for No-Parking Fine in Delhi?
One can easily pay their no-parking fine in Delhi by either opting for the online or offline mode of payment.
Online Method:
In case one is looking for an online method of paying the fine for no-parking in Delhi there are various online payment options available. One can pay either by visiting the official website portal of Delhi Traffic Police or through the official website of Parivahan Sewa. In this website you are required to provide the vehicle number for processing an online payment of parking fines.
Offline Method:
Oone can also pay the fines for violating the no-parking rules in Delhi via offline. Residents can pay the amount in cash to any prosecuting officer of the Delhi Traffic Police Department. Additionally, one can also pay the amount through Cheque/Demand Draft at the Delhi Traffic Police Headquarters. You need to send the money through a post at the DCP/Traffic headquarter.
Consequences for Not Paying No-Parking Fine in Delhi
Failing to pay the no-parking fine in Delhi within 60 days of issue will lead to a traffic police officer visiting the offender’s registered address to collect the amount. On subsequent failure to pay the fine to the officer, the matter will proceed to court.
