What is e-Challan & How it Works?

As the name suggests, e-Challan is a digitised form of challan. This is a Digital Traffic Enforcement Solution adopted by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to make traffic rules stricter so that it can reduce accidents and ensure safety on the roads. 

This digital system uses database integration, sensors, and cameras to determine traffic violations like overspeeding, skipping red signals, overtaking, improper parking, not wearing helmets/seatbelts, etc. 

When a traffic violation is identified, an e-Challan electronic ticket is generated and issued against that vehicle. The offender is notified via SMS/email with details about the violation and the fine. 

After this, the offender has to settle the fine within two months to avoid additional penalties or legal issues. This e-Challan system has streamlined the fine collection process by reducing paperwork and improving traffic enforcement.

How to Check the e-Challan Status of Your Vehicle in Telangana?

Go to the official website of the Telangana Traffic Police and verify if an e-Challan or traffic fine has been issued against you for an unknown offence. There are plenty of other platforms on which you can easily check the e-challan status. These include the Parivahan Government website, the Telangana Police Website, and the Digit app.

Here are the simple steps to verify e-Challan status using the Parivahan Government portal:

  • Step 2: Then, enter challan, vehicle or DL number and verify the Captcha.
  • Step 3: On entering the necessary details, you can see the amount of fine issued for the concerned violation.

Apart from the Government Parivahan website, there are a few other methods of checking the status of e-Challan in Telangana. To do this, you can go to the official website of the Telangana State Police.

Here is the step-by-step process to verify the e-Challan status by using the Telangana Police Website:

  • Step 3: Then complete the CAPTCHA verification to ensure that you are not a robot.
  • Step 4: After this, select ‘Submit’ to complete the process.

After completing these steps, you can access the detailed record of E-Challans issued in your name.

Another alternative to check the status of your e-Challan is to use the Digit app. Click here to look at your pending challans on the Digit app or follow the given steps:

  • Step 1: Find the ‘Check Pending Challans’ section and click on it.
  • Step 2: Enter your vehicle’s registration number and select ‘Check Details.’

  • Step 3: Click ‘Check Details’ to see the complete list of all due challans against your car/bike. This list will comprise details like the status of the challan number, type of violation, date, location, amount of fine, and so on.

How to Pay Traffic Fines Online in Telangana?

There are three different modes of paying traffic fines/e-Challan in Telangana: the Parivahan Government portal, the Telangana Transport portal, and the offline method.

Using the Parivahan Website

Start the payment process on the Parivahan website by following these steps:

  • Step 1: Navigate to the official website of the Parivahan Government Portal.
  • Step 2: Enter the challan, vehicle, or driving license numbers.

  • Step 3: Provide the CAPTCHA code to determine that you are not a robot and click on the ‘Get Detail’ button
  • Step 4: After you have verified the E-Challan details and fine requirements, head to the payment section and click on the ‘Pay Now’ option.
  • Step 5: Pick your preferred payment method and make the payment.

You will get a confirmation SMS on the registered mobile number when settling the payment.

You can also use Telangana’s Transport Portal to pay your e-Challan payments/traffic fines.

Using Telangana Transport's Official Webpage

  • Step 2: Then, enter the vehicle number and solve a verification question.
  • Step 3: After it’s successfully done, you can see all your pending E-challans and payment options.
  • Step 4: Choose your preferred payment method and pay your challan.

Once it's done, you will receive a confirmation message containing the transaction ID on your registered mobile number.

How to Pay Traffic Fines Offline in Telangana?

If you want to pay the E-Challan issued by the Telangana Traffic Police offline, there are two options available for you:

  • Option 1: Visit the traffic police station in Telangana and carry your ID Proof, Traffic Violation Challan, Address Proof, and Driver's License. Pay the fine in cash and acquire a receipt for future reference.
  • Option 2: Alternatively, you can approach a traffic police officer with a handheld E-Challan payment device. They can assist you in making a smooth cashless payment using UPI, Debit card, Credit card, etc.

List of Traffic Fines in Telangana in 2024

Traffic rule violations attract penalties as per the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. However, the traffic amount fines were revised and have been effective since 1st September 2019. 

It was done to ensure enhanced road safety and the practice of safety measures. Refer to the table to see the list of new traffic fines per the amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act.
