An electronic challan or e-Challan is a digital system which is used to enforce traffic regulations and levy fines for offences. Whenever a traffic violation occurs, such as overspeeding, wrong parking, skipping red signals, disobeying traffic rules, etc., the evidence is recorded by cameras or police officers. 

By using the vehicle's registration number, authorities can access the government database to determine the vehicle owner. 

Subsequently, an electronically generated e-Challan is issued to the offender, mentioning the type of violation they have committed alongside the fine amount. Then, offenders are provided with a deadline to settle the fine. Failure to meet the deadline may lead to additional penalties or legal issues. This is how the e-Challan works.

You can use different methods like the Parivahan Government Website, the Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters platform, and the Digit app to verify any e-Challans. Let’s discuss them:

• Step 1: Go to the  Parivahan portal of the Indian Government.
• Step 2: Enter challan number, vehicle, or DL number. After that, complete verification using the CAPTCHA code.

•  Step 3: After this, click on the ‘Get Detail’ option.

After completion, the system will present the details of e-Challan, including the type of violation, the amount of the fine, and any other important data regarding the traffic violation.

Another alternative to check the status of e-Challan is to visit the official website of the Madhya Pradesh Police.

• Step 1: Navigate to the official website of the Madhya Pradesh Traffic Police 
• Step 2: Enter the number of your vehicle associated with e-Challan.

• Step 3: Then enter the CAPTCHA code as displayed on the screen to confirm that you are not a robot.
• Step 4: After this, click on the red-coloured ‘Search’ button to continue with the process

After completing these steps, you will be able to view the e-Challans issued in your name conveniently.

Madhya Pradesh residents can pay traffic fines/e-Challan using three methods: the online Parivahan portal, the online Madhya Pradesh Transport website, and the offline method.

Following are the steps to pay traffic fines/e-Challan payments in Madhya Pradesh by using the Parivahan Government portal:

• Step 1: Go to the Parivahan e-Challan Website of the Government
• Step 2: Enter vehicle, DL, or challan number. Then, click on ‘Get Detail’.
• Step 3: Next, enter the CAPTCHA code and ensure that you are not a robot

If you want to settle your traffic fine offline, you can go to the Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters, which is situated at Jail Road, Jahangirabad, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh - 462004. Follow these methods to pay your traffic fines in Madhya Pradesh offline:

• You can consider visiting the police station personally and paying the traffic fine in cash. Also, remember that you collect the payment receipt and will keep it for future reference. 

• While going to the police station, ensure you carry the essential documents like ID proof, address proof, DL, and a copy of the traffic challan for which you are being punished.

• Moreover, you can also pay a traffic fine by approaching a traffic police cop equipped with a handheld e-Challan payment device. With this device, they can help you make a cashless payment and pay the traffic fine conveniently using your bank card or UPI.
