In Haryana, the Government has implemented the e-Challan system to address traffic problems. It is a digital method of issuing challans or penalising traffic violators for disobeying the rules and regulations. 

Instead of being stopped by a police officer, cameras or sensors capture violations such as overspeeding, skipping a red light, driving/riding intoxicated, etc. Subsequently, fines are automatically issued electronically, making the process more efficient. 

The digital recording of crimes makes it difficult for individuals to avoid penalties. Since its inception, e-Challan has contributed to enhancing road safety in Haryana by promoting compliance with traffic laws. It is a modern approach to managing traffic issues, preventing accidents and ensuring better traffic flow.

The e-Challan, or electronic challans, is a digital system that enforces traffic rules. This system adopts advanced technologies and approaches to detect traffic violations like overspeeding, disobeying traffic signals, overtaking vehicles unnecessarily, etc., using cameras and sensors. 

When you break traffic rules, the police officer will watch the video footage and issue an e-Challan containing information on the crime, fine amount, and vehicle details from the RTO database. 

Once the offenders receive the penalty, they must settle the fines online within 60 days. Moreover, the violation is no longer shown on the record when the fine is settled. This streamlined method ensures traffic laws are enforced promptly, resulting in safer roadways and increased compliance.

• Step 1: Go to the Official Parivahan Website in the state of Haryana.
• Step 2: Enter your challan, vehicle, or DL number, verify the Captcha and click on ‘Get Detail’.

• Step 3:  After this, the system will display the e-Challan particulars, which include the type of violation, amount of fine, and any other essential details regarding the traffic violation.

• Step 2: Locate the ‘Check Pending Challans’ option and select it.
• Step 3: Provide the registration number and click on ‘Check Details.’

In Haryana, you can pay traffic fines/e-Challan using three methods. These include the online Parivahan website, the online Haryana Transport portal, and the offline method.

People can easily pay their traffic fines/e-Challan payments in Haryana using Parivahan's official government portal. Following are the steps to go ahead:

• Step 1: Visit the official Parivahan e-Challan Portal
• Step 2: Enter your vehicle, challan, or DL number, verify the Captcha, and click on the ‘Get Detail’ option.

If you plan to pay your traffic fines offline, you can go to the Haryana Police Headquarters DGP Office at Haryana Police Headquarters, Sector 6, Panchkula, Haryana – 134108. 

Follow these methods to pay your traffic fines in Haryana offline:

• Step 1: Go to the police station and bring documents such as ID proof, address proof, driving license, and a copy of challan showing the traffic violation you have committed and for which you are being penalised.
• Step 2: Handover the documents to the officer in the police station and pay the fine in cash. Do not forget to collect the payment receipt, which can be useful for future reference. 
• Step 3: Another option to pay your traffic fine is finding a traffic police officer equipped with a handheld e-Challan payment device. This device allows you to easily make a cashless payment using your Debit/Credit card or UPI.
