How to Get No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Bike?

Learn more about No Objection Certificate for Bike

You wake up to bright, optimistic morning. You know in your guts that something good is going to happen when you receive a call from your boss telling that you have finally got the promotion. You will need to move to Delhi from Indore. It’s a 3-year contract. Among other things which you decide to take with yourself, you take your bike.

But aren’t you missing a crucial step? Did you obtain an NOC from your region’s transport office?

What is NOC for a Bike?

NOC is the acronym for No Objection Certificate. It is issued by institutions or organisations in India to note that they do not object to the covenants of an application or document.

Now that you are aware of the basic definition of NOC let’s delve into more serious matters.

When is an NOC for a Bike Required?

When you travel from one state to another for a period of more than 1 year or 12 months with your bike, you are required to obtain a NOC from your Regional Transport Office or RTO.

Why is it Necessary?

RTO is an enforcing body which ensures that individuals in their purview adhere to the standards and provisions as stipulated in the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. Now, when you purchase a bike, you need to register it with your Regional Transport Office or RTO.

It is mandatory, so as to ensure you and your vehicle are in conformity with the stipulated laws. An RTO keeps records of individual drivers and their vehicles in accordance with details such as excise duty payment, pollution control standards, emission standards, etc. It helps RTOs to oversee and enforce conformity to the provisions in the law.

Now, in case, you move to another city or state, which has a different RTO, you need to obtain an NOC which allows you to deregister with your original RTO and re-register with the RTO of your new location.

If you do not change your RTO status, it is considered as obstructing enforcement of law and is met with fines, cancellation of driving license, etc. It is because such new RTO will not possess yours and your vehicle's details in their records which will not allow them to ensure you are in adherence to the law.
