The HSRP stands for High-Security Registration Plate, which is basically a vehicle licence plate that is loaded with advanced security features to reduce fraudulent activities and vehicle theft. It also prevents counterfeiting and tampering. The plate is mainly made up of aluminium and is made mandatory by the Ministry of Road Transport and Railways.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport introduced this new regulation of HSRP number plates in December 2018. In Maharashtra, all vehicles registered from April 1, 2019 onwards, need to have HSRP Number Plates. 

The authorities implemented this measure in order to enhance security, track vehicles within the country, reduce vehicle number plate thefts, and standardise the overall vehicle registration process.

According to the Central Motor Vehicles Act, an HSRP number plate is made mandatory for all vehicles running in Pune. Even if you have bought your vehicle before April 1, 2019, you must acquire an HSRP number plate. Violation of this law and non-compliance may result in heavy fines.

As per the latest amendments, the Union Ministry of Road Transport has made it mandatory for everyone to have the HSRP number plate. Hence, every vehicle owner residing in Pune with Pune-registered vehicles can apply for an HSRP number plate.

• Step 1: Visit the official portal of “Book My HSRP”.

• Step 2: Click on ‘High-Security Registration Plate with Colour Sticker’.
• Step 3: Set Maharashtra as the state and enter the other relevant details.

The documents that are required to apply for HSRP in Pune are: 

• Proof of Address of the vehicle owner.
• Proof of Identity such as a Driving License (DL), PAN card, Aadhar Card, etc. 
• The original vehicle registration certificate and a valid photocopy of the same.
