HSRP, or High-Security Registration Plate, is a variety of license plates made tamperproof through security features comprising holograms, laser-branded permanent identification numbers, and non-reusable locks. HSRP would help stop vehicle theft and improve traceability, bringing uniformity in the registration of vehicles all over the state or country. 

These plates are tamper-proof and durable, improving road safety and ensuring that the police can recognise vehicles correctly. The usage of HSRP is obligatory in many places since it avoids crimes connected with vehicles and helps regulate certain standards. Its unique ID number makes it easy to identify for verification or other purposes.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport launched the High-Security Registration Plates in Maharashtra in December 2018. This Scheme was meant to enhance vehicle security and eliminate registration fraud through highly standardised plates with singular identification features. 

Accordingly, the state made it compulsory for all vehicles, including those much older than the initiative, to obtain HSRPs. With the compliance deadline set to the end of 2024, from August 2024, the government asked local authorities to make this a regulation through regular spot checks and penalties.

As per the state regulation in Maharashtra, each vehicle should have an HSRP. HSRP is accompanied by an identification number and colour-coded stickers to identify the vehicle to avoid fraud and increase its security. 

The requirement is put upon each vehicle, be it new registration or plate substitution. Compliance is maintained by regular inspections and fines for those who break the rules.

Whether new or old, any vehicle owner in Maharashtra may have an HSRP number plate. For this, they have to contact vendors empanelled by the Maharashtra Transport Department to fit the plate with certain definite specifications to meet all the legal formalities and provide safety and identity to one's vehicle on the road.

• Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC).
• ID Proof - Aadhaar Card or passport.
• Address Proof - Utility bill or rental agreement.
• Vehicle Insurance Document.

• Step 3: Enter the order number, vehicle registration number, and CAPTCHA

Here is the simple step-by-step process to apply for a duplicate HSRP Number Plate in Maharashtra:

• Step 1: First of all, log on to the official website of the 'Book my HSRP'.

• Step 2: Click " Replacement/Retain/Transfer".

• Step 3: Now you will be shifted to a page where you have to fill in Maharashtra, vehicle registration number, Chassis Number, Engine Number, and CAPTCHA.

Here is the step-by-step process for cancellation and refund of HSRP in the state of Maharashtra: 

• Step 1: First, log in to the ‘Book My HSRP’ official website.

• Step 2: From the top ‘Menu’ bar, click on the option ‘Cancellation of Orders’.

• Step 3: Enter your order number as well as your vehicle registration number.
