HSRP, or High-Security Registration Plates, is a distinctive license plate that improves vehicle security and uniformly identifies vehicle types across India. It is manufactured with aluminium and incorporates hitherto unknown security features such as a code etched by laser, a hot-stamped hologram, and snap locks that cannot be removed.

These plates enhance vehicle identification and tracking, thus helping the police force control unlawful vehicle use and enhancing crime prevention.

The High-Security Registration Plate (HSRP) system was officially launched in Andhra Pradesh on 11 December 2013. This implementation requires every vehicle owner in the state, including owners of old cars, transport cars, and non-transport cars, to register with HSRPs. 

After the Union Ministry of Road Transport issued a notification, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of Andhra Pradesh assumed responsibility for providing HSRPs to vehicle owners. 

This move was a positive step in increasing the safety and standardisation of vehicles for Andhra Pradesh and following the national guidelines for improving car recognition and reducing fraud cases.

High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) are obligatory for all vehicles in Andhra Pradesh. The state transport department has publicly stated that only HSRPs are legal and official number plates. 

This requirement applies to both new cars and those already used in the market. In particular, all new vehicles registered after April 2019 came with HSRPs at registration. Owners of vehicles bought before 2019 must change their old plates with the HSRPs to align with current legal requirements. 

This mandatory implementation guarantees minimum security compliance for vehicles within Andhra Pradesh improves vehicle identification, and minimises fraud or theft.

HSRP is mandatory for all registered motor vehicles in Andhra Pradesh. This mandate applies to broad categories of automobiles, including private cars, motorbikes, commercial trucks, etc. New vehicles registered on April 1, 2019, have the HSRP installed at purchase. 

However, those who own imported vehicles registered before this date must get new HSRPs as those in the market today. This requirement is pertinent irrespective of the age of the vehicles or their category, thereby underlining the state’s firm stance on uniform vehicle identification and safer roads.

Registration and renewal of the HSRP can be done from portals legally empowered by the government, such as ‘Book My HSRP’. Here's a step-by-step guide to apply for an HSRP online in Andhra Pradesh:

• Step 1: Go to the official website of the Book My HSRP.
• Step 2: Go to the “High-Security Registration Plate with Colour Sticker " tab on the homepage.

• Step 3: On the provided window, locate and click the “Book” button to begin the application process.
• Step 4: Locate and select the option with “Andhra Pradesh” written on it among a list of the states.

• Step 5: Enter the vehicle's details, such as the registration number, engine number, chassis number and any other information the site may ask.

• Step 6: Please select your preferred location for the installation of HSRP and the date and time for this service.
• Step 7: Finish the payment procedure that belongs to the HSRP.
• Step 8: Save the payment slip on your device for future reference.

You will receive an SMS on the registered mobile number on the readiness of your HSRP for installation.

To obtain a High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) in Andhra Pradesh, applicants must provide three key documents:

• Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
• Proof of Identity
• Proof of Address

Here's how you can check the status of your HSRP number plate in Andhra Pradesh:

• Step 1: Open the official web link of ‘Book my HSRP’ using a web browser.
• Step 2: On the left-hand side of the screen, click on the first tab that says ‘Track your order’.

• Step 3: Provide the following details:
  • Order number
  • Vehicle registration number
  • Captcha code

• Step 4: Type ‘Search’, then click the ‘Search’ button to submit your request.

• Step 5: Once you click on ‘Search,’ you can find out the status of the HSRP number plate you ordered.

If, for any reason, you lost or your High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) is damaged or stolen, then you can apply for a duplicate. Here's how to apply for a duplicate HSRP number plate:

• Step 1: Navigate to the official website of Book My HSRP.
• Step 2: Scroll down the web page until you find ‘Replacement Booking’ at the top centre, and click on it.

• Step 3: Provide the following information about your vehicle:
  • Engine number
  • Registration number
  • Chassis number
  • Other required details

• Step 4: Select Andhra Pradesh as the registration state, simplifying searching for vehicles in this region.

• Step 5: Enter the captcha code and click ‘Click Here’.

• Step 6: Choose an appropriate date and place to change the vehicle's registration number to the new one.
• Step 7: Double-check and cross-check all the details you have entered on the document.
• Step 8: Complete the payment described in the previous step and download the receipt as a reference.

If you have to cancel your HSRP order in Andhra Pradesh, you can cancel it through the Online High Security Registration Plate portal, Book My HSRP. Here's how to cancel your HSRP order and request a refund:

• Step 1: Visit the Book My HSRP portal through any web browser.
• Step 2: Locate and click the ‘Order Cancellation and Refund’ link.
