Basis Motor Vehicle Category

1. Driving Licence for Non-Gear Two-Wheelers: This kind of DL is issued to drive mopeds or two-wheelers without gears. 

2. Driving Licence for Two-Wheelers or Four-Wheelers with Gear Light Motor Vehicles: This type of DL is issued for cars or bikes.

3. Driving Licence for Transport Vehicles: This License is issued for transport vehicles such as cabs, private service vehicles, lorries, trucks, or trailers.

4. Driving Licence for Commercial Vehicles: This driving license is meant for commercial transport vehicles like tempos.

Basis Licence Category

1. Learner’s Licence: Before applying for a permanent licence, every candidate must acquire a learner’s licence by filling out the relevant form from the R.T.O. office.

2. Permanent Driving Licence: After you get a learner’s licence, you need to clear the driving test to acquire a permanent licence.

3. Duplicate Driving Licence: If you have lost the permanent driving licence, you can apply for a duplicate licence from the R.T.O. office.

• If you seek a licence to drive a two-wheeler without gears (with engine capacity not exceeding 50 cc), you should be above 16 years of age.
  

• If you seek a licence to drive a two-wheeler or four-wheeler with gears, you must be over 18 years of age. 

• If you seek a licence to drive a commercial or heavy motor vehicle, you should be above 20 years of age.

• You should be well-versed in traffic rules and regulations. You should also have a valid address and age-proof documents.

You will have to deposit these documents in front of the Road Transport Authority, enabling him to approve your licence.

• Driving Licence Application Form-4 is available both online and offline.

• Form 5 for commercial driving license

• 3 passport-size photographs.

• Address Proof, such as a ration card, voter's I.D., copy of passport, or L.I.C. policy, may be older than 6 months at least.

• Age Proof, such as an educational certificate, birth certificate, or 10th-class mark sheet.

• Copy of valid learner’s licence.

• Copy of P.A.N. card.

• Receipt of the payment fees.

The application for a driving licence can either be placed online or offline. But before you apply for a permanent driving licence, you should possess a learner’s licence. Let us look at the procedures for both separately.

Depending on your feasibility, you can apply for a learner's licence in Hyderabad both online and offline. Both the procedures are explained below.

Steps to Apply for Learner’s Licence Online

• Step 1: Navigate to the Government of Telangana Transport Department's official website or Sarathi Parivahan portal.

• Step 2: Click on the "Licence" option and select “Learner’s Licence” from the drop-down menu.

• Step 3: Select “Click here to book learner’s licence slot” at the bottom of this page.

• Step 4: Fill out forms 1 (self-declaration for non-transport vehicles), 2, and 3, and attach relevant documents while submitting the form.
• Step 5: Book the learner's licence test slot by filling out the necessary fields with your district, test centre, mobile number, and CAPTCHA code.

Steps to Apply for a Learner’s Licence Offline

• Step 1: Reach your nearest R.T.O. office. 
• Step 2: Collect Form 4 and submit it after filling it out carefully. Provide the required documents while submitting the form. 
• Step 3: Pay associated fees and get a slot for the preliminary test. It helps the authorities judge your capability to understand traffic rules and regulations.

If you pass the test, you will immediately receive a Learner's Licence. After this, you can book an online time slot for the driving test at the R.T.O. office.

• Step 1: Your learner's licence is valid for 30 days, after which you can appear for the driving test at the R.T.O. office. This test will be conducted in the presence of a Motor Vehicle Inspector. You will have to take your motor vehicle and learner's licence for the test.
• Step 2: If the Motor Vehicle Inspector is satisfied with your performance, you will be sent for the biometrics.
• Step 3: Pay the fees of ₹200/-.
• Step 4: After this, you will be issued your permanent Driving Licence.

Your driving licence is your valid identity proof, and it is necessary that you keep it safe. However, if you happen to misplace it or lose it, you should apply for a Duplicate Driving Licence.

And even before this, the first thing after your licence gets stolen is to lodge an F.I.R. and a complaint to R.T.O. You should also get it written and get the affidavit as an essential document.

Steps to Apply for a Duplicate Licence Online

• Step 1: Visit the official website of R.T.O. and click on the “Licence” option.

• Step 2: Select the "Duplicate” option from the drop-down menu.

• Step 3: Select the option to book a slot online.

• Step 4: Select "Duplicate of Licence” under the "Driving Licence" section on the next page.

• Step 5: Enter the DL number and other details on the next page and submit the form, supporting documents, and fees.

You will receive the Driving Licence within a few days but only after the verification process is over. The process to apply for a duplicate licence should be completed within 6 months after you have lost the original DL.

Steps to Apply for a Duplicate Licence Offline

• Step 1: Visit the R.T.O. office from where you have got the permanent driving licence. 
• Step 2: Collect the L.L.D. form, fill it out properly, and submit it with the necessary documents, mentioning a realistic reason for its loss.
• Step 3: Pay the application fee and collect the receipt, which you can use as a substitute for the DL until you receive the duplicate DL.

After verification, you will receive the duplicate driving licence in a few days. Make sure you apply for the duplicate DL within 6 months of losing the original one.

Documents Required for a Duplicate Licence

• Application form L.L.D. duly filled and signed.

• A copy of the complaint, F.I.R., and an affidavit.

• Form 1 self-declaration of medical fitness.

• Proof of residence and age.

• The fee receipt of Rs.200/- for a duplicate licence.

• Details of the driving license

• Affidavit mentioning the reason for the loss of the original driving license. 

• 3 recent passport-size photographs of the applicant

Prepare for the renewal of your driving licence around 30 days before its expiry. In general, a driving licence is valid for 20 years or up to 50 years of age whichever is earlier. A Driving Licence issued for a commercial vehicle is valid for 3 years.

Steps to Apply for Renewal of DL Online

• Step 1: Visit the official website of the Telangana transport department.

• Step 2: Select the “Renewal” option under the "Licence" section.

• Step 3: Continue with the online slot booking option.

• Step 4: Select “Renewal of Licence” under the Driving Licence section.

• Step 5: On the next page, enter your D.O.B., DL number, contact details, etc. and proceed further.

• Step 6: Fill out the renewal form and submit it along with the fees of ₹200, supporting documents, and a copy of the expired licence.
• Step 7: Collect the renewal receipt to drive without any legal hazards until your licence is not renewed.

Steps to Apply for Renewal of DL Offline

• Step 1: Reach your nearest R.T.O. in Hyderabad and collect the DL renewal form.
• Step 2: Complete the form fill-up procedure and submit it with the required documents.
• Step 3: Pay the fee of ₹200 while submitting the application form and collecting the receipt to track the renewal status.

Documents Required for Renewal of the Driving Licence

• Copy of expired driver's licence.

• Medical certificate if the driver is more than 40 years old.

• Application form 9.

• 2 passport-size photographs.

• Self-attested copies of age proof and address proof.

• Application fees of Rs.200/- and receipt.

• Form 1 and Form 1A, if your age is above 50 years.

Your local Driving Licence is not valid across the globe; hence, you need to obtain an I.D.L. for use abroad. You can visit the nearest R.T.O. and submit the required information. The R.T.O. will ask for some documents, as mentioned, but I.D.L. will always work in conjunction with the original Driving Licence. 

To acquire an international driving licence, you must be 18 years old and have a permanent driving license.

Fill and sign application form 4A for I.D.L. The form can be downloaded online through parivahan.gov.in.
