Road Tax for Commercial Vehicles in Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh state tax for taxi is calculated at Rs.150 per seat per quarter and if the vehicle has an all-India permit then it has to pay Rs.200 per seat per quarter.

If you fail to make the Chhattisgarh road tax payment, then there is a penalty charged at the rate of one-twelfth of the tax to be paid along with the tax.

How to Pay Road Tax Online in Chhattisgarh

There are two ways of paying the road tax in Chhattisgarh. Offline method is by visiting the individual RTOs nearest to you, applying for a Form and paying up the dues that are required. 

The online method, however, requires you to follow these steps. 

Step 1: Visit the Chhattisgarh Transport Department’s webpage: http://www.cgtransport.gov.in/

Step 2: Go to the Vahan Services and select the Online Payment option. 

Step 3: You will be redirected to this page: https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/vahan/vahan/ui/eapplication/form_payment.xhtml

Step 4: Enter the details of the Application Number and password and verification code.

Step 5: Then you can proceed to pay the tax either through debit card or net banking. 

Step 6: You have completed Chhattisgarh state road tax online payment!

Which vehicles are exempt from paying the tax in Chhattisgarh?

While the Chhattisgarh parivahan tax applies to most vehicles in the state, there are some exceptions. Any vehicle used by the Municipal Cooperation, Municipal Council, Notified Area Committee, Cantonment Board, or Special Area Development Authority for the conservancy, fire-extinguishing, or as an ambulance is exempted from road tax. Also, any vehicle owned by the State is exempted from road tax. Apart from these, vehicle used solely for agriculture are barred from paying tax.

What happens if you fail to pay the penalty?

 The law states that in case of failure to pay the penalty as well as the tax, the vehicle is likely to be seized and sold off. The procedure is the same as in the case of land tax arrears.

Is there a Green Tax in Chhattisgarh?

There is no Green Tax to be paid in Chhattisgarh. The government levies Green Tax so that older and more polluting vehicles can be phased out. Noxious fumes released into the air by these vehicles are harmful to health, hence the application of a Green Tax.
