What is e-Awas, Meaning, Eligibility Criteria & How to Register?

The Indian Central Government offers housing solutions to its employees depending on their eligibility, needs and vacancies available in the housing units. To make house allotment simpler and hassle-free, the Central Government introduced e-Awas. To know more about it, keep scrolling!

What Is e-Awas?

The Indian Government launched General Pool Residential Accommodation to offer its employees affordable housing solutions. The Union Housing Minister utilises an online portal called eSampada to allocate the houses to eligible candidates. e-Awas is the main software that handles this entire online process of house allotment. The Government developed this software for a transparent, paper and hassle-free process of allotting houses fairly to eligible Central Government employees.

Types of Residences and Grade Pay Scales Under e-Awas

Listed below are the type of residences and grade pay that are allocated under e-Awas:

Residencial Type Grade Pay
I The grade pay ranges between ₹ 1,300 to ₹ 1,800 every month.
II The grade pay ranges between ₹ 1,900 to ₹ 2,800 every month.
III Grade pay ranges between ₹ 4,200 to ₹ 4,800 every month.
IV Grade pay ranges between ₹ 5,400 to ₹ 6,600 every month.
IV (Special residence type) Grade pay of ₹ 6,600 and above every month.
V-A (D-II) Grade pay ranges between ₹ 7,600 to ₹ 8,000 per month.
V-B (D-I) Grade pay ranges between ₹ 8,700 to 8,900 per month.
VI-A (C-II) Monthly grade pay is ₹ 10,000.
VI-B (C-I) Monthly grade pay is ₹ 67,000 to ₹ 74,999.
VII Grade pay ranges between ₹ 75,000 to 79,999 per month.
VIII Monthly grade pay of ₹ 80,000 and above.

What Is the Priority for Allotment of Housing Accommodation Under E-Awas?

The priority factor for allotment of housing accommodation is illustrated below in a tabular format:

Accommodation Type Priority Factor
Lower accommodation type (type I to IV) Joining date of the service or seniority
Higher accommodation type (type IV (special) to VI) Factors include grade pay of the officer, basic pay, joining date of the service and date on which you get the current salary.

If the conditions mentioned above appear similar between two candidates, then an officer retiring earlier from his or her service will be highly preferred over the other. The higher officers and those that fall under type V cannot choose a lower accommodation type but not below type IV (special accommodation). The Ministry of Urban Development allocated houses under types VIII and VII.

Eligibility Criteria to Apply for General Pool Residential Accommodation

You must fulfil the following eligibility criteria for General Pool Residential Accommodation:

Government Employees in Delhi

If you work in a government office in Delhi and wish to apply for this scheme, then the Cabinet Committee on Accommodation must approve your location. Apart from this, you must reside in the NCT.

Government Employees Outside Delhi

If you work in a government office in one of the enlisted cities of GPRA outside Delhi, you must get approval for your housing proposal from CCA. This approved proposal will be sent to the directorate for further approval.

Government Employees Having Residential Units

All government employees who have received residential units from their departments qualify to avail the benefits of GPRA. If you fall under this category, you must acquire a certificate from your respective department mentioning 'that no junior to the concerned applicant has received such allotment'.

How to Register in e-Awas?

Here is the following step-wise guide to registering in e-Awas:

Step 1: Go to the official portal of eSampada. Select 'ok' on three slides that appear on the screen.

Step 2: Navigate to the registration link and type your mobile number, 12-digit Aadhaar number, and name. Remember to enter your name that is registered in your workplace.

Step 3: Create a login ID. A valid password will be sent to your registered mobile number. Later, you can also alter this password as per your requirement.

Step 4: Finally, enter your joining date in the service to complete this registration process.

How to Apply for a Residence in e-Awas?

Application for residence in e-Awas is simple. All you need to do is follow the simple step-wise guide stated below:

Step 1: Log in to the official portal of eSampada. Log in with the relevant credentials, that is, your login ID and password.

Step 2: Fill in the e-Awas online form, DE-2. After filling in the form, take its printout and submit it to Delhi's Director of Estates Office.

After successfully submitting the form to the relevant authority, your account will be activated, and your name will be added to the waiting list. Once your name is on the waiting list, you can provide the details of your preferences for housing units online at e-Awas.

Benefits of e-Awas for Candidates With Existing Grade Pay

If you fall under the type I category with the existing grade pay ranging from ₹ 1,300 to 1,800 and type IV, where the existing grade pay ranges from ₹ 5,400 to 6,600 and serve at a particular station consistently for 5 years as of 1st January of the similar year, you will get a special benefit.

The benefit includes that as of 1st January, that is when the five years of service at a particular station is completed, you will get an advantage of one year over and above the joining dates of Central Government service when evaluating priority levels in the allotment waiting list.

The Indian Government has taken the digital initiative of allocating housing units to government employees through e-Awas.
