RTO Udham Singh Nagar

Udham Singh Nagar is now a modern educational, agricultural, and industrial hub in Uttarakhand that once was almost uninhabitable due to a lack of transportation means. The Udham Singh Nagar RTO (UK-06) is responsible for maintaining a proper traffic flow and other vehicle-related services like issuing licences and vehicle registration for the large population that it houses.

Udham Singh Nagar RTO provides 2 types of vehicle registration:

1. Temporary Registration

2. Permanent Registration

It is mandated by the Motor Vehicle Act that one carries his or her vehicle’s registration certificate (hard/soft copy) while driving at all times.

Registration of a vehicle includes various other charges. Here is a list of some of them applicable in Udham Singh Nagar:

• Registration charges: ₹600 (applicable to every vehicle)
• Hypothecation charges: ₹1500 (applicable to cars purchased on a loan)
• Number plate charges: ₹230 - ₹400
• Temporary registration charges: ₹1200 - ₹1500 (validity ends in 30 days)

Udham Singh Nagar follows the same road tax calculation system that is followed under Uttarakhand road tax system. Here is a condensed list of the same:

• Four-wheelers: 3% to 9% of their cost (priced between ₹6 lakh to ₹20 lakh)

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance while driving on public roads in Udham Singh Nagar according to the Motor vehicle Act. This insurance provides coverage in situations where a third-party property is damaged or a third person is injured.

Not being able to show this insurance can mean a minimum of ₹1000 fine and a maximum of 3 months of imprisonment along with licence and registration suspension.

According to a 13^th February 2023 report, residents of Rudrapur, a locality in Udham Singh Nagar, raised their concerns over the deplorable state of the 2 highways, NH 74 and NH 87.

In response to that protest and blame on the NHAI, the SP CS Ghodke said that the authorities are communicating with NHAI officials to respond to the emerging threat immediately.

Uttarakhand conducted a road safety campaign focusing on road signs and marking to prevent road accidents in 2022.

In this campaign, with inter-departmental coordination, various sides of road safety were covered including improvement of road engineering, parking system, prevention of vehicle overloading, overspeeding and more.
