RTO Tehri

Tehri is a hilly region in Uttarakhand and also a quite popular residential area. The area is connected with the surrounding parts with proper road networks. Hence, at the local level, all traffic-related matters are managed by the Tehri RTO which has the code number UK-09.

The functions and other important facts about this RTO are discussed below.

As a local transport authority, RTO Tehri has the following functions:

• Arranging driving licence test
• Granting international driving license
• Issuance of learner’s licence

• Issuance of vehicle fitness certificate

• E-auto rickshaws registration
• Issuing hypothecation certificate

Different types of driving licence issued in Tehri RTO are as follows:

• 50cc motorcycle licence
• Gearless motorcycles such as scooters and mopeds licence
• Light motor vehicles (Non-transport) driving licence
• Light motor vehicle (Commercial) licence
• Licence for HMVs and special permits
• Licence for taxis, autos, 3-wheeler delivery vans, etc

Like all other parts of the state, Tehri RTO has two types of vehicle registration. These are:

• Temporary registration
• Permanent registration

You need to pay the required fee and submit the necessary documents to get this registration certificate. The number will be displayed on the number plate.

The vehicle registration charge in Tehri are as follows:

• Motor Cycles: ₹300
• Transport 3-Wheeler/Quadricycle/LMVs: ₹1000
• Medium Goods and Passenger Vehicles: ₹1000
• Invalid Carriages: ₹50
• Motor Vehicles (Imported): ₹5000
• Motorcycle (Imported): ₹2500
• Non-Transport Quadricycle/3-Wheeler/LMVs: ₹600
• Heavy Goods and Passenger Vehicles: ₹1500
• Other Vehicles: ₹3000

You need to pay the road tax in Tehri as per the vehicle’s cost, type, and purpose followed in Uttarakhand road tax. These charges are as follows:

• Vehicles range below ₹10 lakh: 6% of the cost of the vehicle
• Vehicles range above₹20 lakh: 8% of the cost of the vehicle
• 2-Wheelers: ₹200
• Vehicles with up to 1000 kg of weight: ₹1000
• Vehicles with 1000 kg to 5000 kg of weight: ₹2000
• Vehicles with above 5000 kg of weight: ₹4000
• Trailers (excluding vehicle): ₹200
• 3 seaters transport vehicle: ₹730 per year tax and ₹10000 one-time tax
• 3 to 6 seaters transport vehicle: ₹730 per year tax and ₹10000 one-time tax
• More than 7 seaters transport vehicle: ₹1700 per year tax and ₹10000 one-time tax
• Goods vehicles less than 3000 kg of weight: ₹1700 per year tax and ₹10000 one-time tax
• 20 seater carriage vehicle: ₹100 per month
• Vehicles that cover less than 1500 km plane route: ₹85 per month
• Vehicles that cover less than 1500 km hill route: ₹75
• Vehicles that cover distances more than 1500 km: ₹0.04 per km and seat per month
• Vehicles that cover only municipality limits: ₹85 per month

There are specific fines for breaking traffic rules in Tehri. These are mentioned below:

• Driving without a valid number plate: ₹500 (first time)
• Driving without a valid number plate: ₹1500 (second time)
• Driving without wearing a helmet: ₹1000 and licence suspension for 3 months
• Breaking general traffic rules: ₹2000
• Rash driving: ₹1000 (first time)
• Rash driving: ₹5000 (second time)
• Driving without putting on a seatbelt: ₹1000
• Sharing misleading information: ₹2000
• Driving and talking on the phone: ₹1000 (first time)
• Driving and talking on the phone: ₹5000 (second time)
• Driving in an unfit condition: ₹1000 (first time)
• Driving in an unfit condition: ₹5000 (second time)
• Minor person driving: ₹2500
• Triple riding: ₹500 (first time)
• Triple riding: ₹1500 (second time)
• Driving with invalid or suspended licence: ₹5000
• Carrying children without letting them wear a seatbelt: ₹200

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance in Tehri like in other parts of Uttarakhand. If you do not have insurance you will have to pay a fine of ₹1000 for the first offence in the case of 2-wheelers and ₹2000 for the 4-wheelers. In subsequent times, the fine will be increased to ₹2000 for the 2-wheelers and ₹4000 for the 4-wheelers.

Tehri is situated in a hilly region which is one of the prime reasons for frequent unfortunate road events in Tehri. There is a recent report of the death of three people near Saldogi because of the falling down of a car into a deep gorge. The same thing happened according to the 17th October report where two people died due to a car falling into a deep gorge on Nagun-Suakholi road. However, the local RTO has been taking up the charge to make people more aware of driving safety in this region.

However, a report also says that there is a great project going on which is the Dehradun-Tehri tunnel construction which is worth almost ₹8750 crores. The tunnel will provide safe and swift commuting for people.

In the latter months of the previous year, Tehri police took serious action against the drivers via the road safety with Jagran campaign. The sole motive was to make people aware of the punishment and misery of drinking and driving.
