Few things you should keep in mind before choosing a name for doggie!
Go for a Short Name
Stick to a short name with one or two syllables.
In any case, it should not be more than three syllables as your furry baby will find it challenging to learn. But if you do choose a longer name, make sure to pick out a suitable nickname too.
Suppose you have picked the name Victoria for your beautiful pupper. Since it can be a tad bit too long for your baby, why not use it only for formal occasions and on medical and insurance forms? For training and day-to-day usage, you can consider a short and cute nickname like Vicky.
Take Care of the Vowels and Consonants
Pick a name ending with a vowel, particularly something with short 'a', long 'e' or hard consonants as your pup will find them easier to hear than other types of sounds.
No Similarity with Command Words
Avoid names for dogs that are similar sounding to command words as it will confuse your furry baby during training. Avoid names like Milo or Noah as they sound closer to No. And trust us when we say you have to use no a lot of times!
So it's better to keep these dog names out of your list.
No Insulting Names, Please!
Avoid offensive or embarrassing names for your dogs as you may end up regretting it later on.
By that time, it will be too late for you to change it as your doggo may not respond to any other name.
Apart from these factors, you can decide an apt name based on these few factors below -
Your Dog's Personality and Appearance
Apart from these basic guidelines, there are other pointers that you can consider while deciding a cute name for your dog.
For instance, you can choose a name based on your dog's appearance.
So, if your puppy is a black Labrador, you can consider classic names like Choco, Cocoa, Coffee, Espresso etc. On the other hand, names like Spotty, Dottie are more suitable for Dalmatians or any other dogs with a spotted coat.
But if you do not prefer names based on coat colour or markings, then you can select unique names for dogs according to your dog's personality traits. If he or she talks (barks) all the time, then you can consider unique names like Sir Barks-a-lot, Sergeant Barkowitz etc.
Your Interests and Tastes
You can draw inspiration from your favourite literary character, celebrities, and historical figures while choosing a name for your pup. Choose quirky names like Vincent Van Dog, Shah Woof Khan, Lord Bhowldemort or simple names like Dobby, Cheddar, Fang, Scooby, etc.
Or, if you are a big fan of Bollywood, you can take inspiration from your favourite actors and actresses and their furry babies.
Sonakshi Sinha named her pet dog Kuro.
Shraddha Kapoor calls her pet dog Zoey.
Kaiser is the name of Shahid Kapoor's dog.
Salman Khan named his furry babies Myson and Myjaan
Lastly, remember to take some time out to get to know your pup's quirks and personalities; only then can you pick out a perfect name for dogs in India.
