Taxpayers use a TDS challan to deposit TDS with the government.
You can check your TDS challan status by following these steps -
For Taxpayers
There are 2 options available for taxpayers to check TDS challan status in TIN. These are -
CIN Challan Status
Step 1: Visit the official website of NSDL and choose CIN (Challan Identification Number).
Step 2: Provide all relevant information, such as BSR Code of Collecting Branch, Challan Tender Date and other crucial details.
Step 3: Select "View", and the information will display on-screen.
You can view the following information -
- BSR Code
- Serial number of challan
- PAN or TAN
- Tax Payer's name
- Challan deposit date
- Major Head Code with description
- Date of receipt
- Whether the amount entered is correct
TAN Challan Status
Step 1: After visiting the NSDL website, click on “Challan Enquiry”. Select the TAN based view.
Step 2: Enter your TAN number, deposit date, month and year.
Now, you can view the following information -
- Major Head Code and description
- Nature of payment
- CIN
- Minor Head Code
Remember: If you enter an amount against CIN, the system will verify whether your entered amount is similar to the one uploaded by the bank.
In both cases, if you notice "no records found" and it has been more than 1 week, contact the bank through which you have deposited your TDS challan.
Tax collecting banks can opt from the 2 options to check TDS challan status.
For Bank Branch
The tax collecting branch can view the total number of challans deposited and the total amount for each major head code. It needs to provide branch scroll date, major head code with description.
Other important details include -
- Challan tender date
- Serial number of a challan
- Taxpayer's name
- Amount
- TAN or PAN
- Date of receipt
For Nodal Branch
A nodal bank branch can view the following information -
- Scroll date
- Major head code and description
- Taxpayer's name
- TDS Amount
- Number of challan and branches
With each scroll date, it can view -
- BSR Code
- Branch scroll number and date
- Number of challans and total TDS amount
- Date of receipt
As a deductor, you can also check challan status on TRACES. TRACES is a new portal with an improved user interface.
