Gurgaon or Gurugram situated near the Delhi-Haryana border is India’s second largest IT hub and third largest financial and banking hub. Apart from being very high on the Human Development Index it also has busy streets that the Gurgaon RTOs take care of. It has 4 RTOs (HR26, HR55, HR72, and HR98) that work together and implement necessary rules and regulations.

Let’s take a wider look at the Gurgaon RTO’s functions:

Road tax in Gurgaon follows the road tax in Haryana. The following list is to provide a broad idea:  

• Two-wheelers costing up to ₹75000: 4% of the vehicle’s cost  

• Two-wheelers costing between ₹75000 to ₹2 lakh: 6% of the vehicle’s cost 

• Two-wheelers costing more than ₹2 lakh: 8% of the vehicle’s cost

• Four-wheelers costing up to ₹6 lakh: 5% of the vehicle’s cost 

• Four-wheelers costing between ₹6 lakh and ₹20 lakh: 8% of the vehicle’s cost

• Four-wheelers costing more than ₹20 lakh: 10% of the vehicle’s cost 

• Commercial vehicles with up to 4 seats: ₹600 (quarterly)

• Commercial vehicles with 4 to 6 seats: ₹625 (quarterly)

• Commercial vehicles with 7 to 12 seats: ₹1450 (quarterly) 

Traffic Fines are applicable for someone breaking traffic rules in Gurgaon. Here is a short list mentioning a few common violations of traffic rules:

• Under age driving (w/o DL): ₹5000 

• Violation of air pollution standards: ₹10000

• Carrying more than seating capacity: ₹500 to ₹1500 

• Dangerous driving: ₹5000 to ₹10000 

• Driving physically/mentally unfit: ₹1000 to ₹2000

• Carrying goods in a passenger vehicle: ₹2000 (first time), ₹5000 (second time)

• Driving (HMV/MMV) with passengers in excess speed: ₹4000 

It is mandatory to have a motor insurance in Gurgaon as it is crucial to protect citizens from accidents and unpredictable liabilities. Vehicle insurance will cover: 

• Lawsuits that emerge from an accident that has damaged a third party. 

• Repair work due to accidental damages. 

• Damages of specific types. 

• Benefits for the family of the deceased  

Additionally, there is a penalty of ₹2000 to ₹4000 fine for driving a vehicle in Gurgaon without vehicle insurance. 

According to an NDTV report, on 8th February the police declared that there would be traffic restrictions on the Delhi-Jaipur highway lasting for 6 hours due to Droupadi Murmu’s official event (a national convention for women) in Om Shanti Retreat Centre. 

However, on 9th February the Gurgaon administration said that they have planned alternative ways so that smooth traffic is maintained on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. 

According to a report on 17th February, Hyundai’s initiative “Be the Better Guy” can solve Gurgaon’s problem with its black spots. The black spot in Gurgaon is responsible for deaths and severe injury to pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles. It has caused 29,000 civilians to die untimely in 2021 only.

The campaign focused on solving these issues and took serious steps to prevent such accidents from happening.  

Furthermore, another report on 18th February, states that the state government has decided to implement high-resolution AI-enable speed cameras, automatic number plate recognition cameras, etc. to track violators of speed limit and lower the rate of accidents.
