Golfer Insurance in India

What is Golfer Insurance?

Why is Golf Insurance Essential?

Golf insurance is essential for several reasons. It provides financial protection against various risks associated with playing golf, including damage to golfing equipment, personal accidents, and third-party liabilities.

Here are three reasons why golfer's insurance is essential:

High Incidence of Injuries

Studies have shown that the annual injury rate among professional golfers ranges from 31% to 90%. (1)
Common injuries include those to the lower back, elbows, and shoulders, hence making golf insurance cover essential.

Financial Investment in Equipment

The golf equipment market in India is substantial, with revenues projected to reach US$3.20 billion in 2025. (2) With such significant investments, protecting equipment against damage or theft becomes crucial.

Liability for Accidental Damages

Golfers may inadvertently cause damage to property or injure others during play. Without insurance, they could be held personally liable for medical expenses or repair costs, leading to unexpected financial burdens.

Who Should Get Golfer’s Club Insurance?

What’s Covered in Digit Golfer’s Package Insurance Policy?

Public Liability

This coverage protects you against legal liabilities arising from third-party bodily injury or property damage caused while playing or practising golf on any recognised golf course.

Damage or Theft to Golfing Equipment

If your golfing equipment gets damaged or lost by theft or any unforeseen event, this policy will provide coverage up to the sum insured or the limit of indemnity mentioned in the policy schedule.

Personal Accident for Insured

This section covers you in case of an accident while playing golf. If the accident results in permanent partial or total disability or death, the policy will provide the sum insured amount as per the policy schedule.

Accidental Hospitalisation

If you are hospitalised as an in-patient (for a minimum of 24 hours) due to an accident while playing golf, the policy will cover the treatment expenses. This includes accommodation, ICU charges, medication, diagnostic procedures, and operation theatre fees.

Personal Accident for Caddy

This section covers your caddy in case of an accident on the golf course. If the accident results in permanent partial or total disability or death, the policy will provide the sum insured amount as per the policy schedule.

Dental Cover

If you get struck by a golf ball while playing, resulting in severe dental pain that requires immediate medical attention, the policy will provide compensation for the medical charges incurred for emergency dental pain relief.

Accidental Damage to Third-Party Property

This coverage indemnifies you for losses from accidental damage to third-party property struck by a golf ball while playing or practising golf on any recognised golf course or driving range.

Hole in One (for Amateurs Only)

If you complete a hole in just a single stroke during an organised tournament or normal golf rounds (completed 18 holes), the policy will cover the immediate expenses for celebrating the achievement.

Reimbursement of Subscription and Pre-Paid Fees

If you suffer an injury while playing golf, which leaves you unable to play for more than the number of days mentioned in the policy schedule, the policy will reimburse the subscription fees.

What’s Not Covered in Golfer’s Package Insurance Policy?

While golfer’s insurance provides valuable coverage, it’s important to understand that not everything is covered. Here are some common exclusions that golfers should be aware of before purchasing a policy:

Incidents Outside Covered Locations

Your insurance is only valid within the geographical limits mentioned in the policy. If an accident or loss happens outside these areas, the claim won’t be accepted.

Pre-existing Conditions and Known Issues

Any health condition or disability that existed before buying the policy won’t be covered. If you were already aware of a potential risk before the policy started, any related claim may be denied.

Illegal, Reckless, or Fraudulent Activities

If an incident occurs while attempting or participating in any illegal or unlawful act, the claim will be rejected. Claims based on fraud, misrepresentation, hiding information, or injuries caused by reckless behaviour will also not be honoured.

Wear and Tear or Depreciation

Golf equipment naturally wears out over time. The policy does not cover regular deterioration or depreciation of clubs, bags, or accessories. It also won't include any loss or damage that happens indirectly due to other factors.

War, Terrorism, and Radiation Risks

Damage or loss caused by war, rebellion, terrorism, or any military action is excluded. Claims related to nuclear radiation or radioactive contamination will not be accepted.

Medical and Emergency Evacuation Costs

Expenses for emergency medical evacuation are not covered under this policy. These costs must be covered separately if you need to be transported due to an injury.
