RTO Official Websites
All about Official Websites of RTO, VAHAN & SARATHI
If you already own a vehicle or are considering purchasing one in the near future, there is one organisation you need to be mindful about during your tenure as a vehicle-owner -
Your Regional Transport Office or RTO!
What is RTO, you ask?
The Regional Transport Authority or Office is a governmental body institutionalised to maintain the databases of registered drivers and vehicles of specific regions. There are multiple RTOs across all Indian states, and Union Territories dedicated to different regions.
These authoritative bodies are empowered to oversee the licensing procedure, registration of vehicles, monitoring and organising excise duty collection, etc. of their specific regions. These regions encompass several locations (cities, towns, villages) under its wing.
In order to further the convenience of consumers as well as governmental bodies, several components of RTOs have been digitised. These include websites such as VAHAN and Sarathi.
But What are VAHAN and Sarathi?
What is VAHAN?
It is a computerised database of all information stored with Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and District Transport Offices (DTOs). It is created based on individual state-requirements while also conforming to the requirements specified in the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.
