Kachchh is the largest district in India. The Gulf of Kutch surrounds it to the south and the Arabian Sea to the west, and the Great Rann of Kachchh surrounds the northern and eastern parts of Kachchh. With its beautiful landscape, it attracts people from different parts. 

This has increased the number of vehicles on the road which is controlled by GJ-12 Kachchh RTO, which works under the Gujarat Ministry of Road Transport. It monitors and maintains all the rules and regulations of the Motor Vehicle Act, of 1988.

As per the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, all motor vehicles have to be registered at their respective RTO offices. Here is a list of all the services GJ-12 Kachchh RTO offers:

After the successful registration of your vehicle, you will receive a vehicle registration certificate and a number plate which is going to have the vehicle registration number (GJ12XXXX).

Kachchh RTO charges for services such as registration, renewal and duplication of vehicles. The list of vehicle registration charges includes:

• Permanent registration charges: ₹600

• Temporary registration charges: ₹1,500-₹2,500 

• Imported bikes registration charges: ₹2500

• Heavy commercial vehicle registration charges: ₹1500

• Renewal of trade certificate for a commercial vehicle: ₹500-₹1,000

• State development parking charges: ₹2,000-₹4,000

These are the Gujarat Road Tax applicable in Kachchh:

Bikes:

• Bikes within ₹10 lakhs: 6% of the cost of vehicle 

• Motorcycles costing more than ₹20 lakhs: 8% of the cost of vehicle

Cars:

• Cars costing within ₹10 lakhs: 6% of the cost of vehicle 

• Four-wheelers costing more than ₹20 lakhs: 8% of the cost of vehicle

Commercial heavy motor vehicles:

• Heavy commercial vehicles with a weight of 1000 kg: ₹1000

• Vehicles within the weight of 5000 kg: ₹2000

• A commercial heavy vehicle with a weight of more than 5000 kg: ₹4000

Following traffic rules is not an option. Traffic rules should be followed not only to avoid fines but also to prevent accidents. Check the following list of traffic fines:

• Riding without a helmet: ₹500

• Driving without wearing a seatbelt: ₹500

• Driving without a licence: ₹2000 for two-wheeler vehicles, ₹3000 for four-wheelers

• Driving or riding a vehicle holding on the Mobile: ₹5000

• Drink and drive: ₹10000 

The local RTO of Kachchh imposes road safety regulations by cooperatively working with the Traffic Police. They monitor if all road safety regulations are being maintained and impose new rules and regulations.

According to the Motor Vehicles Act, it is mandatory to have motor insurance driving in Kachchh. This rule applies to people travelling all over the country. Not following the rule can lead to a traffic fine charged by the police. As per the rule, every vehicle owner should have third-party or comprehensive insurance while driving a motor vehicle.

According to a news article, to improve tourism and economic activities in Gujarat, the government proposed a 1630-kilometre coastal corridor. It would stretch from Umeragm in the south to Narayan Sarovar in Kachchh. Supposedly, it is going to be the longest coastal highway in the country. 

The total estimated project cost is ₹2400 crore. The main objective of this project is to boost coastal tourism and transport, promoting economic activities.
